Recoleta: Sergio Lavandero, National Science Award 2022 will inaugurate the Open Science talks in the neighborhood
This Friday, November 18 from 10 a.m. in the main square of the Municipality of Recoleta, The first talk of the Open Science initiative will be held in the neighborhood, organized by the Explora Project of the Northern Metropolitan Region of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and innovation
Open Science in the neighborhood, is an activity organized by Explora RM Norte, that seeks to strengthen the link between researchers, disseminators and society, through participatory meetings that promote the socialization and appropriation of knowledge in the community.
In its first version, This year there will be three activities in the community, starting with Dr's talk. Sergio Lavandero, National Prize of Natural Sciences 2022, academic at the University of Chile and director of the Advanced Center for Chronic Diseases ACCDiS, who will offer a free talk called "Don't let your heart break", where he will address one of the deadliest diseases in Chile and the world, This is high blood pressure and how it directly influences the functioning of the heart.
"High blood pressure, Obesity, Diabetes, myocardial infarction, cancer, Heart failure are some examples of the so-called chronic non-communicable diseases that together account for between 70-80% of mortality in almost all countries in the world. They are characterized by developing very slowly over decades as a result of a combination of modifiable factors. (Tobacco use, salt, Amount and type of diet, sedentary lifestyle, etc) and non-modifiable (or also known as genetic); I will be talking about this topic with the community of Recoleta this Friday morning.!”, said Dr. Sergio laundry.
The activity is completely free and all the residents of the place and its surroundings can participate..
