On December 6, 2023, Dr.. Monica Acevedo, cardiologist, full professor in the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at the UC School of Medicine and also an ACCDIS researcher, received the "International Service 2024" award from the American College of Cardiology.
According to the U.S. institution founded in 1949, The award recognizes cardiology specialists internationally who "have made and continue to make unique and outstanding contributions to cardiovascular medicine and science that have significantly improved cardiovascular care worldwide.", and also, who "have left a significant impact on their peers, Students, patients and community because of their service".
At the announcement of the award recognition, the president of the American College of Cardiology, B. Hadley Wilson, He praised Dr. Acevedo "for her continued dedication to international causes and because she has been a true role model for others to follow in her footsteps.". In this respect, Dr. Acevedo commented: "I was very happy with the award, because I feel like it represents me in the sense that I've established international contacts to support other doctors, teachers, researchers and students from Chile and other countries".

Networking to advance cardiovascular prevention and education
Dr. Acevedo's international work dates back to 2002, when he returned from his Cardiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation (Cleveland Clinic Foundation) of which he is a fellow. Since then, he has been actively involved in institutions such as the World Heart Federation (World Heart Federation) and, among others, has been appointed Senior Advisor to the Lancet Commission on Women and Cardiovascular Diseases (Lancet Women and Cardiovascular Disease Commission).
In recent years, Dr. Acevedo has participated in the Women in Red campaign (Go Red for Women, In English), which is led globally by the American Heart Association and the World Heart Federation, and whose goal is to educate about women's cardiovascular diseases. Through contacts at the Latin American level, the doctor has promoted this campaign to Latin America and the Caribbean.
