Research line: Mechanisms associated with metabolically healthy and unhealthy obesity: Role of inflammation and communication mediated by extracellular vesicles | e-mail

Mariana Cifuentes trained as a Pharmaceutical Chemist at the Faculty of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Chile between 1991 and 1997. Then, continued his doctoral training at Rutgers University, in New Jersey USA, obtaining the degree of Ph.D. Department of Nutritional Sciences in 2002.

In 2003 he joined the Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology (INTA) of the University of Chile with a postdoctoral fellowship from Ellison Medical Foundation, and since then he has developed his academic career in this Institute, being currently Associate Professor. Inside INTA, the Dra. Cifuentes has participated as a member of the Academic Committee of the Doctorate in Nutrition and Food (2011- 2014), of the Institutional Council (2008-2010), of the Ethics Committee (2008-2012) and from 2014 to date she is Deputy Director of Postgraduate Studies.
