The Government recently presented a Bill which seeks to strengthen the treatments offered to cancer patients and work in the prevention of this disease.

After several years of work, the development of the National Cancer plan It counted with the help of hundreds of professionals, among them as collaborators of the Panel of experts, the principal investigators of ACCDiS, Dres. Alejandro Corvalán and Catterina Ferreccio and researcher Association Dr. Gareth Owen.

In this respect, Dr. Owen told the portal UC biology "with this initiative, the Government has acknowledged that Chile must implement an infrastructure to address the burden of cancer that will arrive in the next few years".

The National Cancer Plan guidelines

As designated by the Ministry of health, the main axes of this project signed by the Executive are the promotion, education and prevention needed to face this kind of Pathology, as well as also the strengthening of healthy lifestyles for the self-management of the population

On the other hand, the national plan seeks to ensure comprehensive care, timely and quality to the entire population, enabling them to have access to palliative care in case of cancer patients.

The project will seek to improve the National Oncology network, adding to the currently existing network eleven new centers of complexity throughout Chile, in addition to the commitment to train approximately 130 oncologists by 2022.

At last, authorities will develop a National Cancer Registry from 2020 on, allow becoming a support in decision-making relating to public health.
