On behalf of the researchers, collaborators, Advanced Center for Chronic Disease students and support staff (ACCDiS ) I extend our appreciation, gratitude to Dr. Ramón Corbalán Herreros and our condolences to his family, who passed away on November 19, 2023.

I am convinced that some people are chosen to perform special missions during their earthly existence in our society because of their exceptional personal and leadership characteristics. In my opinion, one of them was Dr. Corbalán, more than a university professor, was a teacher who contributed significantly to the development of clinical cardiovascular research of excellence and to the training of multiple new generations of professionals and scientists. From a personal perspective, he stood out for his wisdom, goodness, His proximity and professional work recognizes him as an exceptional cardiologist and clinical scientist, Expert in arrhythmias and heart failure. Dr. Corbalán graduated as a physician-cardiologist from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Chile and completed his major at Harvard University, USA. Dr. Corbalán was Professor of the Division of Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and during his academic career he received multiple national and international recognitions, standing out for his monumental global scientific work with 280 publications and 37.000 Citations.

From a young age, his leadership in clinical research was palpable, Marking Significant Milestones, such as his landmark publication in the journal Science in 1973 on the influence of stress on cardiac functioning generated during his stay at Harvard. His ability to influence the area of cardiology transcended the boundaries of his environment at the national level, being recognized for his achievements and capabilities by the global cardiology community. His vocation for research was present until his last days, Interested in recent advances in cardiovascular medicine, Review of scientific articles and their three publications of the year 2023.

However, His exceptional leadership was manifested by his ability to see beyond the average person ("supervision") and to identify unprecedented opportunities and challenges for their time. A concrete example was his promotion of multidisciplinary work in basic-clinical research in the cardiovascular area, already developed for more than three decades among members of the University of Chile and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Today, both institutions are sponsors of ACCDIS. Dr Corbalán was one of the architects of the centre as he promoted inter-institutional collaboration and developed generations of professionals, Doctors and scientific specialists in the cardiovascular area. Today many of us recognize him as our scientific father.

I can only express infinite gratitude to Dr- Corbalán and remember him as a great mentor. His legacy will live on in the hearts of us all.
