It ranked 3rd in the general section, preceded by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) and the Universidad de Chile, both sponsoring institutions of the Center. This year 2023 ACCDiS reached 1st place in innovation, 7th in research and 49th in social impact in Chile.
The SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) is a ranking of academic and research-related institutions classified in five sectors: government, health, universities, business and non-profit organizations, which are measured by an indicator that combines three sections: research performance, innovation results and social impact measured by their web visibility.
This year 2023 ACCDiS managed to position itself for the third year among the top three places in Chile, being preceded by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Universidad de Chile, both sponsoring institutions of the Center. It also ranked first in innovation and seventh in research.
In terms of scope in Latin America, the Center ranked third in innovation, sixteenth in the general section and thirty-fifth in research.
“It is a recognition of all the effort, dedication and teamwork that all the multidisciplinary researchers of ACCDiS put into their scientific work. These have been difficult times for the development of science and we still have many challenges to address, but we must continue working committed to science, technology, knowledge and artistic creation of our country” said Dr. Sergio Lavandero, director of ACCDiS and academic of the University of Chile.
In this same context, Dr. Catterina Ferrecio, Deputy Director of the Center and academic of the PUC commented that this international valuation in which ACCDiS currently finds itself, has been thanks to the organization they had before the project was awarded, “from the beginning we began to work focusing on the problems and listening to basic science, clinical, epidemiological and public health researchers, we understood how the discovery of a researcher worked for us to work on a problem in the population”.
She added that this is the importance of the Research Centers, working with a multidisciplinary team offers you different perspectives, as well as maintaining communication with the principal investigators of each area “for many years, the six principal investigators, now seven, have sat at the same table to see how we are doing and how we can help our postdocs, thesis students and collaborate among ourselves, this has been key to function as a Center” concluded Dr. Catterina.
Within the rankings by thematic areas and categories, the Center achieved high rankings in the areas of Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Medicine, Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmacy.
On the other hand, the ranking also shows which journals are used by the institution’s researchers to publish their work, making it possible to identify the areas of knowledge where the institution has published, to recognize the prestige of the scientific journals in which the institution’s knowledge has been published and to identify predominant scientific communities. More than 80 scientific journals were highlighted, among them: Nature Reviews Neurology, Pharmaceutics, Journal of nanobiotechnology, among others.
This ranking is one of the most prestigious worldwide and is of special relevance for those higher education institutions and scientific research centers that emphasize the development of technology transfer and dissemination of science and that, year after year, seek to consolidate their position in the world of research.
