Education in nature: Science Camp Boosts Educational Competencies

The initiative brought together educators to enhance scientific and pedagogical skills through experiences in nature, birdwatching and the creation of educational resources, with a view to integrating science into the classroom.
In an environment steeped in natural wonders, Camp Explore VA! It stood as a learning catalyst for 40 education professionals. Organized by the Explora North Metropolitan Region Associative Project, This five-day event immersed teachers, Early Childhood Education Educators and Technicians on a Journey of Transformation.
Led by experts in outdoor education, Participants immersed themselves in enriching experiences. From captivating talks to group dynamics, Every moment became an opportunity to strengthen scientific and pedagogical skills.
Loreto Bornscheuer, Executive Coordinator of Explora RM North, He explained that the approach was to integrate the natural environment into all subjects of the school curriculum, Strengthening the interconnectedness between disciplines. Francisco López from Natura Educa of the Atkinson Ibáñez Foundation presented the "Project Learning Tree" methodology, focused on enhancing outdoor learning opportunities in all subjects.
Bird watching, by the team of the Network of Birdwatchers and Wildlife of Chile (ROC), It stood out as a valuable tool for generating knowledge and increasing appreciation for the sciences. The creation of a herbarium as a pedagogical resource, led by Dr. Gabriela Valenzuela, It was also part of the activities, as well as working with the NGO Neguén to encourage observation of the environment and the formulation of questions that promote knowledge.

The Camp does not end here: Follow-up meetings will be held to evaluate the implementation of these experiences in the classrooms. This project, executed by the Advanced Center for Chronic Diseases and led by the Faculty of Science, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Companies of Chile, It is a vital step towards an education that is more integrated with nature and science in our classrooms.
