Recently, Matias Monsalves, PhD student ACCDiS – INTA, She attended the course "Excercise in the Management and Prevention of Metabolic Diseases ' taught at the prestigious Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

This course - between 12 to 18 June just past- It was directed by Brendan Gabriel, academic of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology of the institution. The activity had the purpose of integrating the basic and clinical research in the treatment and prevention of chronic diseases, and it involved graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.

The course featured talks by world-renowned researchers, including Juleen Zierath, group leader of Physiology, integrative and member of the Committee of the Nobel Prize and recognized leader in the field of Diabetes and exercise; Jorge Ruas, Associate Professor of the Group of Molecular exercise physiology; and Elin Ekblom-Bak, of the Swedish School of Sport and Sciences, among others.

In this respect, Matías Monsalves pointed out that "this course allowed me to both generate important networks of collaboration for the future with United Kingdom, Sweden, Australia, Norway and United States, as well as expanding my knowledge in the area and my questions for upcoming projects".

In addition, the future doctor was able to carry out practical steps in the laboratory, both in cell culture and animal model (ex vivo) which focused on electrical muscle contraction (EPS). "These models allow to understand how exercise impacts under different stimuli or intensities skeletal muscle", said.

Matías Monsalves - who is A Professor of Physical Education, Master in Exercise Sciences and candidate Doctor of Nutrition and Food of the University of Chile– had financial support from ACCDiS to attend this activity, In addition to the award alongside their tutors Rodrigo Troncoso and Sergio Lavandero - collaborator ACCDiS - iNTA and director of ACCDiS, respectively- at the last Congress of the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Chile.
