The event brought together more than 500 people, who attended to learn about the research projects of basic and secondary education developed by various educational institutions in the Maule Region.
With a large number of participants, this year’s School Science Fair «Science and Health Care» received more than 32 students from 5th to 8th grade and 56 from 1st to 4th grade, who worked for three months on their research projects focused on science and health, development in engineering and technology or student social responsibility.
The event was attended by distinguished personalities, among them: Sergio Lavandero, National Prize of Natural Sciences 2022, Director of ACCDiS and academic of the University of Chile, Dr. Alejandra Hernández, postdoctoral ACCDiS -Research Center sponsored by the University of Chile and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile-, Jaime Uribe, Director of the Department of Municipal Educational Administration (DEAEM of Molina), Nilton Palacios, Director of the Santa Rosa de Molina Hospital, among other special guests.
«The Liceo Bicentenario de Molina represents the effort made by all the boys and girls of the region in the development of scientific research, since on this occasion not only students from the Liceo participated, but also students from more distant communities. On behalf of the DAEM of Molina, we are very grateful and happy with this type of link between the Hospital and the Research Center, we hope that this type of activities will continue to be developed and hopefully all the schools in the region will be able to participate», commented Jaime Uribe, DAEM of Molina.
The event was also visited by other educational establishments, among them: Escuela San Jorge de Romeral, Escuela especial Esperanza de Molina, who had the opportunity to walk through the 34 participating projects. «The objective of the school science fair is not only to contribute to the development of a scientific and technological culture in our institution, but also to motivate more students in the region to develop innovation projects. Last year, we had a visit from the El Progreso School and this year, they were part of the fair,» said science teacher Karla Silva, main member of the event’s organizing committee.
During the event, Domini Arenas from the Bajos los Romeros de Molina School, took the opportunity to thank for the opportunity «the fair was quite interesting, I learned things that I had never seen before, it is very nice to know everything that can be done in science, because in my school there is not enough capacity to see what is here. Besides, it’s my first time participating in a school science fair. It’s great to know that there is a large community that is interested in science like me!

Words from the winners
«My experience was good and pleasant, I really enjoyed participating, the truth is that I did not expect to be the winner in my category, but I am very happy about it. I did my project because of a need that not only happens in my house, but in the country in general. My grandfather is diabetic and lives alone, visiting him I realized that he needed someone to help him transport his medications and that’s how the idea of the medical assistant was born» explained Nicolás Rodríguez, representative of the first place in basic education.
Cosmos Torres, representative of the first place in high school also expressed his joy «on behalf of the team we are very happy because we were recognized for all the effort we put into this project. We chose the topic as a result of the tastes of the three members of the team, Fran wants to study psychology, Martin is a movie fan and I really like music. Our project studied how sound and music can be the best accompaniment to a film product and how this can alter the perception that young people have of these projects,» explained one of the team members.
