For the third consecutive year, the Santa Rosa de Molina Hospital, the Advanced Center for Chronic Diseases (ACCDiS) and for the first time the Bicentennial High School of Molina, invite the educational community and establishments of the Maule Region to participate in the Science, Technology and Health Care Fair, which will be held on August 9, 2023. Teams can apply until June 15.
The Science, Technology and Health Care Fair is a free activity, aimed at students between 5th grade of Basic Education and 4th grade of High School in 2023, with a maximum of 18 years of age, who together with their guiding teacher are interested in sharing the progress or results of their research work with the community.
Students can apply in three categories:
- Research in science and health, through observational, descriptive or analytical work, aimed at generating new knowledge in the different areas of science.
- Development research in engineering and technology, through the creation or optimization of products, materials, devices, processes, systems or services, aimed at satisfying a specific need and/or solving a detected problem.
- Student Social Responsibility, designing or implementing proposals aimed at improving health education.
«The realization of the science fair responds to the need to promote research and generate new knowledge on health issues. Inviting the school community to be part of something fundamental such as prevention, health promotion and above all innovation. In addition to approaching and opening these spaces for youth to take charge of the integral concept of health, in fact, in itself, this activity provides tools to those who participate, allowing them to address health issues in themselves, being a contribution to personal and family level, impacting positively on their community» said Nilton Palacios, Director of the Hospital de Molina.
He also added, «we usually worry about diseases when they are declared and many of these are avoidable through behavioral changes and lifestyles, so this opportunity provides scientific support in achieving these objectives, transmitted to new generations through the dissemination of their research,» said the Director of the Hospital.
On the other hand, the Director of ACCDIS, Dr. Sergio Lavandero referred to the importance of making visible and promoting this alliance between health, education and research in the regions, given that «the talent of the researcher/s of the regions is not sufficiently valued. He also pointed out that the prevention of chronic diseases should begin at an early age, similar to the development of a scientific-technological culture in society. Let’s not wait to have another pandemic to prepare the scientists of tomorrow» said the National Prize of Natural Sciences 2022.
