To achieve advances in health with high quality standards it is necessary to constantly develop research, for this reason the Institute of Public Health actively participates in applied research projects».
In addition, he added that «During the year 2022, the ISP published 38 studies in various scientific journals of international relevance Also, 26 researches were developed, of which 14 were completed and 12 are still ongoing, among these, the characterization and evaluation of the safety profiles of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in relation to adverse event reports».
He also highlighted other topics that will be presented during this conference, such as research on the consumption of antimicrobial drugs, which seeks to establish the trends that affect resistance to these drugs, and pharmacological properties in plants and fungi with the aim of proposing health measures in this regard.
The opening keynote lecture «Advances and upcoming challenges in the research of chronic non-communicable diseases» was given by the expert Dr. Mario Chiong of the University of Chile, who pointed out that the National Health Survey indicates that 33% of the Chilean population smokes, aggravated by a high rate of sedentary lifestyle «In Chile, if one adds only cardiovascular diseases and cancer, this corresponds to more than 50% of all deaths».
This was followed by the lectures of professionals from the Department of the National Agency of Medicines (ANAMED) of the ISP: «Challenges of the authorization and control of clinical studies with COVID-19 vaccines and other pharmaceutical products for this disease, in the context of pandemic», by the speaker Nicolás Gutiérrez, head of the Clinical Studies section, who emphasized the protocol measures for the approval of these studies in their different phases.

What the pandemic left behind», speaker José Crisóstomo, head of the Biological Products Registration section; who highlighted the management of vaccine approvals taking into account all the relevant background so that the country had access to the majority of vaccines that met international standards.
Likewise, the talk «Challenges in the authorization of establishments that manufacture biological products», given by Paola Medel, head of the Establishment Authorization section, was essential to show all the efforts made to authorize facilities, for example, that manufactured alcohol gel during pandemics.
After the COVID-19 pandemic inoculation in Chile, it has been necessary to know the notifications of the Events Supposedly Attributed to Vaccination known as ESAVI, for this, the conference «Challenges and results of the pharmacovigilance of COVID-19 vaccines in the context of pandemic», by Verónica Vergara, head of the Pharmacovigilance sub-department, showed the notification system and the data regarding the notifications received, where in the pandemic years a little more than 18,000 ESAVIs have been reported, which is quite a high figure. This figure is quite high compared to pre-pandemic years, where an average of 900 notifications are received per year.
The last lectures were given by Cristián Echagüe, professional of inspections, where he spoke about the «Challenges of the control of reports of CBC contamination in pharmaceutical products in the context of an outbreak» and then Cecilia Vásquez, professional of the National Control Laboratory, referred to the same topic, but showing the «Results of the analysis of CBC contamination in pharmaceutical products in the context of an outbreak».
