More than 1000 students aroused curiosity at the Curacaví School Science Festival

On October 30, more than 1000 students promoted science at the second Curacaví Science Festival, Under the slogan: "The questions that inspire us". The initiative was organized by the Department of School Administration of Curacaví – DAEM and the Explora Northern Metropolitan Region Project.
The Joaquín Blaya Events Centre, It was the stage that received the 34 exhibitions of educational establishments of the commune, ranging from preschool to secondary education, Multiple institutions and research centers also participated, including: the Center for advanced chronic diseases (ACCDiS ) with its stand on the Planetary Diet, aimed at promoting a healthy eating style, the Millennium Institute for Research in Optics (LOOK), the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of the Environment RM, the Centre for Astrophysics and Related Technologies (Tasting), InvadeLab, BishopMedia3D, EXTENCIQYF of the Faculty of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Chile, and the University of Santo Tomás with the participation of the Center for Research and Innovation for Climate Change (CiiCC), Medical Technology, Biotechnology and Basic Sciences.
The day was attended by important authorities of the commune, who joined the activity to highlight the value of education and science in social development. Among them, the mayor of Curacaví, Juan Pablo Barros; the director of the DAEM, Victor Rivera; and Dr. Mario Chiong, director of the PAR Explora RM Norte, institution led by the ACCDiS, through the University of Chile and its Faculty of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
In this sense, the mayor of Curacaví, Juan Pablo Barros, He called on all attendees to take advantage of these instances to be inspired and encourage creativity, imagination and curiosity so that, in addition to learning about science, Discover the charm of investigating and exploring the unknown. "I hope that these experiences awaken in many the “Bug” of curiosity and the desire to investigate, thus sowing the seed for future scientists who will contribute to the progress and well-being of all."

For the second consecutive year, the students of the Presidente Balmaceda High School in Curacaví, together with his chemistry teacher Luis Sánchez, were present at the fair and this year they presented their project on "Sensory Perception", an idea that arose thanks to the experiences and workshops developed in the Explora VA Teacher Camp! 2023, in which Professor Luis participated.
On the other hand, Also present were, 2nd grade students of the Nuestra Señora del Carmen School in Curacaví, together with his teacher Elva Barrera who commented, “We are very happy that the children can communicate their knowledge of the area of science and share with the other exhibitions of the fair.”
In this same line, Amanda Vera, student at Colegio Nuestra Señora del Carmen, he said "I liked being able to explore the stands of the other courses" and Luciano Gamboa also a student of the same school, added: "I thought the fair was very good, I liked the projects that did experiments, especially one that related music to mathematics".
Entertaining talks and a workshop on science
During the event, two talks were given, on the one hand, "Orion the hunter on a leash of stars", directed by Abigali Rodríguez, PhD student in science Astronomy Mention of the Department of Astronomy (GIVE) University of Chile, who stressed that "participating in this fair was very exciting, especially because of the demand for children that there was, the questions they asked were very interesting and additionally the Fair looked very entertaining, Activities like these are indispensable for the education of children and young people".

At last, Carolina Lagos also participated, member of the PAR Explora RM Norte team, who captivated the little ones with the experience "It's not magic, it's science!”, "The idea is that children can ask themselves questions and generate amazement in them about chemical reactions," he said.
