Within the framework of The Month of Antarctica, September 10th our North MRI Explore will talk to Dr.. José Manuel Pérez Donoso of the Center for Bioinformatics and Integrative Biology (CBIB) of the Fac. Andrés Bello University Life Sciences on "Strategies for the Survival of Microorganisms in the Most Extreme Areas of Antarctica"

❄️Antarctica is one of the most extreme places on our planet. In fact, inland from the continent the average annual temperatures are close to -20 oC, there is no sunlight for much of the year, and during the summer there is no night (24 h of light). Chile has established a scientific basis in this area, Union Glacier Base, from which many national scientists have studied the unique characteristics of this extreme hyper environment. In particular our research group has participated in 4 expeditions to Glaciar Unión with the aim of studying the few microorganisms present, and understand how they manage to survive in this extreme environment, explained Dr. José Manuel
