History

Since 2013, the Advanced Chronic Diseases Center (ACCDIS) was established as part of a national program to enhance research in priority areas. This initiative brings together scientists, experts in epidemiology, public health, clinical medicine, biomedicine and biology, who carry out transdisciplinary research and collaborate in the formation of advanced human resources in chronic diseases.

After 10 years in operation, ACCDIS is recognized by Chilean society as a high profile research center for the study of cancer and cardiovascular diseases, allowing the participation of scientific experts in the training of public health policies, issues of national interest and dissemination of science in the Chilean community.

Sponsoring and associated universities

ACCDIS is sponsored by the University of Chile and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and as associated institutions are the Catholic University of Maule and the University of La Frontera. Since its inception, the center has the financing of the Fondap program, a national program to boost research in priority areas.

Consolidate ourselves, in the next 5 years, as a leading advanced research center in research and training of advanced human resources specialized in chronic diseases, analyzing the two main health problems for the population: cancer and cardiovascular diseases, in order to provide relevant information both for its prevention as a treatment as well as for the reflection of public policies regarding health ”.

Mission

To be a national and international benchmark in transdisciplinary research and training of advanced human resources in chronic diseases, through the generation of specialized knowledge on the genetic, environmental and social elements that determine the development of cardiovascular diseases and cancer, providing prevention and treatment to influence health proposals and positively impact people's health.

Members ACCDiS

ACCDIS is currently made up of 294 people working in the 7 lines of research, the Mauco project and in two support units. Each line of study is led by a principal researcher, 21 associated researchers and collaborators. On the other hand, the center has 32 postdoctoral, 82 doctors, 30 masters, 24 undergraduate students and 60 professionals

The ACCDIS organization is also made up of an administrative office, Academic Council, Innovation Committee, International Scientific Committee and a National Advisory Committee, which periodically visit the center for recommendations and improve the operation of ACCDIS.
