II Workshop 1000 Genomas: Genomic science to conserve biodiversity: the future is in the DNA

Santiago, April 7, 2025 - The initiative 1000 Genomas, led by the Millennium Institute of Genome Regulation (IMPRG), invites you to participate in the II National Workshop Genomic science to conserve biodiversity:The future is in DNA, the days April 23 and 24, 2025, in it Hall of Honor and the Eloísa Díaz Room of the Central House of the University of Chile.
This event will bring together National and international experts, postgraduate students, decision makers and representatives of public bodies to explore advances in genomics and their direct impact on the Biodiversity conservation, the understanding of Native species DNA and the development of solutions in health, bioeconomy and sustainability.
What is the 1000 genomes project?
The project 1000 Genomas It is one scientific initiative driven by him Millennium Institute Genome Regulation Center (CRG) and composed of projects of excellence throughout the country, including Institutes Milenio Base, IMO and IBIO, and centers like CMM, CHIC, ACCDiS e IEB, with the support of Nine Chilean universities.
Its mission is to boost scientific knowledge and human capital formation to understand Chile's biodiversity.
Outstanding workshop
The program contemplates Magistral exhibitions, interdisciplinary discussion panels, presentations of scientific committees and an open posters session, promoting collaboration between science, education and public policies.
International speakers:
- Dr. Harris Lewin (USA) - Leader Biologist Earth BioGenome Project (EBP), whose objective is to sequence the DNA of all known eukaryotic species. Professor at Arizona State University, member of the National Academy of Sciences, and world reference in comparative genomics and chromosomal evolution.
- Dr. Patrick Wincker (France) - Director of the Genoscope, the National French Sequencing Center. Outstanding researcher in ecosystems and co-director of the project Atlasea, centered on marine biodiversity. Empo member and awarded by the French Academy of Sciences.
