We highlight the research carried out by Dr.. Catterina Ferreccio Readi, Principal investigator for ACCDiS Advanced Chronic Diseases and Jenny Ruedlinger Standen, postdoctoral staff at the centre, who recently joined the international questioning of the new nutrition recommendations guide, publicada en Annals of Internal Medicine, where it is suggested to continue the usual consumption of red and processed meats.

Given the confusion created by this new nutrition guide and the potential harms it could bring to the population to address these new recommendations, ACCDiS researchers, conducted a critical analysis of this publication.

To do this, contrasted the interpretation of evidence of the health impact of red and processed meats by international agencies with the analysis made by this new guide. Showing, that the guide published in Annals of Internal Medicine doesn't deliver new information, just try a reinterpretation, possibly biased, studies that demonstrated the harm to the health of red and processed meat.

Scientists stated that in their assessment, ignored the mechanistic studies, animal trials and dismissed the environmental impact of human diets based on red meat.

Concluding, it is important that the community is not confused with this publication and maintains its adherence to what is now considered an ideal and environmentally sustainable diet for humanity: vegetable-based diet, fruits, legumes, white meats, reduced in red meats and low in refined sugars and salt.
