COPLAS 2018: 1st day of Latin American cohort population for the study of chronic diseases the birth of the Consortium

Advanced Center for chronic diseases (ACCDiS ), and his cohort MAUCO, they organized the "first day of Latin American population cohorts for the study of chronic diseases (COPLAS)”. This scientific meeting attended by 62 researchers responsible for 18 different cohorts in Latin America along with representatives of international research centers which were convened from Wednesday 4 to Friday 6 April in the hot springs of Quinamávida, Maule region, Chile.

The purpose of VERSES was to identify, among the existing Latin American cohorts, collaboration spaces with the purpose of promoting research and transfer, and applicability of the results to different sectors of the communities studied and their countries. The realization of VERSES was the first step to achieve an effective agreement, just and lasting between the present cohort, with a view to the formation of a "consortium of cohorts Latin-American".

During the development of this scientific meeting is conducted conferences and plenary sessions in which each cohort experiences were presented, limitations and challenges in the context of the Latin American countries. At the same time, round tables for discussion of methodological aspects linked to this type of study is developed, including population & samples studied; instruments for collection of information from persons and biobanks; storage of data and information systems; management and reporting of findings of health; limitations and advantages of health interventions in cohorts; monitoring of adverse events; data handling; maintenance of the participants and inclusion in the population, and longitudinal data analysis, among others.

COPLAS working hours was attended by Dr. Sergio Lavandero, Director of ACCDiS, the Dra. Catterina Ferreccio, Deputy Director of ACCDIS and Director of the cohort of the Maule (MAUCO) local and regional authorities, as the Mayor of Molina, SRA. Priscilla Castillo the Prof. Diego Durán Jara, Rector of the Catholic University of Maule. All authorities emphasized the deep significance and impact of this type of meetings in South America and the world.

In this way, COPLAS organizers expressed its commitment to maintaining and strengthening collaborative work started at this meeting. Defining the second Conference to be held in Peru, the year 2020 under the coordination of researchers at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia.

The "I Jornada de Latin American cohort population for the study of chronic diseases - VERSES" organized by the population cohort of the Maule - MAUCO, in the Centre of advanced studies of chronic diseases - ACCDiS, It is an event that is expected to meet the principal groups of chronic diseases in Latin America research (THE), as well as leading researchers from the United States and Europe, in order to share experiences and strengthen international collaborative networks.

The day will be held from 4 to 6 April 2018 in the Hotel Termas de Quinamávida, Linares, Chile.

1- Discuss the experience of chronic diseases research groups in the, explore areas of cooperation including exchange of data, samples and methods.
