During the morning of today, September 2, the 13 Research Centers of Excellence in Priority Areas of the FONDAP Program, met with presidential candidate Yasna Provoste, in order to present their collaborative work between various areas and disciplines of science and make available to public policies, its scientific contributions and sponsoring educational institutions.

The meeting served to put on the table the requirements of a country, that needs science and technology not to be a shift job, but rather that they are contributions and efforts that transcend in the course of time. During the meeting, candidate Yasna Provoste and her team, stressed that their government program reflects what is evident in these Research Centers of Excellence, who work collaboratively between different areas.

Within the agreements discussed, candidate Yasna Provoste pledged to doubling the budget that is currently invested in science and technology Chile. "Today we listen to those who are making scientific advances and frontier research and we also learned about the number of young people who are being trained through the scientific development work of fondap centers.. We are committed not only to financial issues, but we will also make progress in connecting more and more scientific development to the challenges that public policies have for the solutions that Chileans expect today," said the candidate..

On the other hand, Vania Figueroa representative of the Ayllu in the area of science and technology reported, "Within our central axes is the development of sciences with a long-term view, which is not done within four walls, we are committed to listening to you and work together and thus continue its legacy of research to innovate, transfer and contribute to the development of public policies, based on scientific evidence, this is the only way we have for our country's potential.".

First approach of science with presidential candidates

Dr. Sergio Lavandero, Director of the Center for advanced chronic diseases (ACCDiS ) on behalf of fondap centres, highlighted the willingness of all Centers of Excellence with the political class, in order for there to be solutions to the problems that the community is interested in, in priority areas "FONDAP Centers focus on doing multidisciplinary research, train new generations and actively participate in the development of public policies. In this sense, we call on all political and scientific actors to make alliances for the progress of Chile".

The meeting was attended in person and virtually by the directors and representatives of the following Research Centers: Center for Research Dynamics of High Latitude Marine Ecosystems (Ideal), Centre for the Study of Conflict and Social Cohesion (COES), Centre for advanced studies of chronic diseases (ACCDIS), Water resources Center for agriculture and mining (CRHIAM), Interdisciplinary Center for Intercultural and Indigenous Studies (CIIR), Center for Climate Science and Resilience (CR2), Research Center for Integrated Disaster Risk Management (CIGIDEN), Center for Solar Energy Research (SERC-Chile), Center for Sustainable Urban Development (CEDEUS), Interdisciplinary Centre for Aquaculture Research (INCAR), Center of Excellence in Geothermal Energy of the Andes (CEGA), Regulation of the genome Center (CRG), Geroscience Center, Mental Health and metabolism (GERO).
